The Nature Trail is a quiet (except when our train passes!) woodland path running alongside our railway line. You can experience the sounds and smells of an old steam engine or a more modern industrial diesel crewed by our volunteers.
It offers opportunities for photographing and viewing our trains as they pass by or just a pleasant walk along a wooded trail.
You may be lucky to spot tree creepers, a barn owl or muntjack deer. In warm sunny weather look out for butterflies and moths.
The initial part of the trail runs alongside our wagon siding. Here you can get up close with old tipplers, a derelict tram, an old parcels van and more.
We currently have one picnic table along the trail and are planning more in the future.
Further along there are two benches where you can enjoy countryside views and maybe an engine running along the tracks.
The trail is uneven in places and has no steps.
It can be wet after heavy rain so do bring some suitable clothing. In dry weather it should be accessible and the trail vegetation is kept in check.
Be aware the path is inclined and narrow near to the course of the old canal (now mostly obscured). This may limit buggy and disabled access.
