We are extremely pleased to offer our showcase event of the year – multiple steam locomotive operation – as a season closing finale. In conjunction with our friends at Great Northern Locomotives based at the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway, visiting steam locomotive ‘FULSTOW No.2’, which is an 0-4-0 saddle tank built by Peckett & Sons as their works number 1749 will be operating alongside our operating home steam locomotives, Barclays AB1931 and AB2088 SIR THOMAS ROYDEN. The three-steam locomotive event will see a variety of running throughout the day when we also hope to test launch our new passenger vehicle, a converted and restored SHARK brake van. Locomotives are likely to be using our new locomotive preparation yard as the season long project is completed and launched into operational service.
FULSTOW No.2 is an appropriate choice of visiting locomotive as she worked for the whole of her commercial life in the quarry industry in the Matlock area. She was constructed alongside our own resident Peckett ELIZABETH, works number 1759, the first time they will have met since 1928! SIR THOMAS ROYDEN is returning to Cottesmore for the event having spent the summer on loan to the Royal Deeside Railway near Aberdeen.
Keen enthusiasts and visitors will get the chance to see the locomotives operating in an authentic environment again, with the event featuring a run up our 1 in 60 hill by each of our locomotives during the day.
Follow our blog for further details including the photographers charter event on Monday 18th November, featuring a night shoot to launch our new locomotive yard.
